Safer at Home, kinda.

Hey Mamas and Papas, how are you? I wanted to sit down and write a little bit about what’s been going on with us lately. Since I announced that we purchased our first home, I really haven’t taken the time to say much about it. Well, it’s been a few months and we still haven’t moved in. We have been remodeling our little fixer upper so that it will really feel like home and of course, there are some must needed updates taking place. The reality of it all is that we have really been dragging our feet, but being that this is our first time ever remodeling a home, we are finding it to be expensive and very time consuming. Through it all, we are really grateful to have the chance to make the home our own. It is really an act of love and what my dad calls, “sweat equity”. I’d love to keep you all updated as we continue to make changes.

Once we started this project, I never thought we’d be shopping as much as we are now. Have you ever fell in love with a store that you’d never think you’d even visit more than a few times in your lifetime? That is me with my new found love, Home Depot. We spend so much time in that store. Well, at least we did before we were mandated to stay at home. Even now, I find myself on Home Depot’s website very often. That store has everything! All of our remodel needs, and even the necessities that are now hard to find in your regular grocery stores. If you didn’t know, they sell tissue, paper towels, laundry detergent, cleaners and basically everything else that I never knew I needed. Instead of my husband having to talk me into leaving Target, we both are running through Home Depot with great joy.

It also makes me happy to spend my extra spare time on Pinterest and Houzz. If you’ve never heard of these apps and need any kind of remodeling, house or decor inspiration, download them right now. They are the absolute best. When the baby takes a nap I quickly pick up my phone and get to scrolling. They seriously have helped me make many decisions on the things that I’d like to see in my home. I’ve never really taken the time to be thoughtful about my home’s decor, so picking kitchen layouts, appliances, cabinets, flooring, lighting, the whole nine, has really been a challenge for me. Having these apps to help give me inspiration make it so much easier. And now they have features where you can shop items that you find in the photos. How amazing is that?! It can link you to the exact item or items that are very similar. Below is a picture of my kitchen inspiration. I figure a dark bottom cabinet will help combat quick sticky little fingers from my little baby love. Not to mention, the look is just gorgeous.

The main thing that I’m looking forward to when this remodel is all said and done, and we finally move into our new home is watching my son grow up in this house. Being that he is right around the corner from turning 9 months old, he will most likely be taking his first steps in this house. There will be lots of firsts with him here, and we will be able to commit them into memory in a space that is really his. He’ll have his own room, and will eventually have his own playdates here. He has a front and back yard where he’ll spend a lot of time playing, building things with dad, and all around enjoying his little life. It makes me happy thinking about the happiness he’ll experience in our new home. There’s a certain joy about being able to give your children things that you’ve always dreamed about. I know it may sound really cliche, but it really is a happy moment for me. Considering the fact that he nearly did not survive in my womb, I’m especially happy that he is here to experience the good things. His little toothless smile is number one on my list right now. I promise to share his life experiences in this home right here on the blog.

SMILE!

Please stay encouraged during these times when it is safer to be at home. Hug your little ones, make new experiences with them, and keep being the best moms and dads ever. Hugging you all tightly, Mama Kay.
